Join Collegium Institute for a Sun Rises in the East: Evangelization in East Asia special event on the role of the Catholic Church in late imperial China by Ronnie Hsia (Penn State). Prof. Hsia's talk, which draws from his current book project titled Catholicism and Late Imperial China, 1580-1800, will explore the history of Catholic missions in China between the 16th and 19th centuries, offering insights into the greater social and cultural contexts in which early Christian missionaries found themselves.
Prof. Hsia is a Professor of History at Penn State University. His research focuses on the history of Catholic renewal and the encounter between Europe and Asia. He is the author of several books, including A Jesuit in the Forbidden City: Matteo Ricci 1552-1610 (Oxford University Press) and The World of Catholic Renewal, 1540-1770 (Cambridge University Press).
