Undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Pennsylvania are invited to join Collegium Institute for the second Symposium Series event of the academic year, to be held on Friday, November 8 at Eastern University. We will gather over a catered meal to discuss civic friendship, its nature, worth, and how it can be fostered in particularly tumultuous public squares. Rev. Jack Franicevich and Dr. Amber Bowen will be offering reflections on ancient and modern understandings of friendship in hopes that we can retrieve insights for our own communities, especially those insights that subvert the polarizing forces of our communities.

The Symposium Series brings together students from the Villanova Humanities Department, the Collegium Institute, and the Templeton Honors College at Eastern University. Each university hosts one of Symposium events in the fall or spring. The theme for this year’s Symposium series is friendship.

Transportation to and from Penn’s campus will be provided by Collegium.
