On the Making of Books: Crafting Catholic Literature for the 21st Century

In recent years, Catholic fiction has experienced a literary revival. How can we account for this rebirth of Catholic literature? Who or what is driving it? What kind of books are Catholic authors writing? What kind of market is there for this revival?

Join the Collegium Institute and the Saint Benedict Institute on April 29th at 7pm ET via Zoom for this engaging evening panel which will bring together Catholic editors and authors to explore the promises and possibilities of contemporary Catholic fiction. The panel will be moderated by Bernardo Aparicio of Dappled Things and will include:

Vivian Dudro, Senior editor at Ignatius Press. Over the last 35 years, she has written news articles, book reviews, and columns for various Catholic media, including the National Catholic Register, Catholic World Report, and Catholic San Francisco.

Joshua Hren, founder and editor-in-chief of Wiseblood Books and author of This Our Exile (Angelico 2018) and In the Wine Press (Angelico 2020). He is also Assistant Professor of English at Belmont Abbey College and his new book How to Read (and Write) Like a Catholic is due out through TAN Books in May of 2021.

Karen Ullo, editor at Chrism Press, former managing editor at Dappled Things, and author of Jennifer the Damned (Wiseblood 2015) and Cinder Allia (2017), now in development as motion picture with Believe Entertainment.

Suzanne Wolfe, author of four novels including The Confessions of X (Harper Collins/Nelson 2016), which won the Christianity Today Book of the Year award, and most recently, The Course of All Treasons: An Elizabethan Spy Mystery (Crooked Lane Books 2019); also co-founded Image, a journal of the arts and faith, with her husband Gregory Wolfe.

Moderated by Bernardo Aparicio, founder and publisher of Dappled Things.
