Collegium Institute, in partnership with the Penn Newman Center, invites college students to apply for the Fall 2024 Catholic Humanism Fellowship. Each semester is an independent fellowship, and student fellows who complete all four will be awarded Collegium’s Certificate in Catholic Thought.
We are pleased to announce this semester’s fellowship as: “Christ & the Common Good: On Faith and Politics”. Across six lunchtime seminar sessions, we will examine the relationship between belief and political engagement, particularly in light of Catholic social teaching. How can one pursue the common good through modern political institutions? What is the relationship between divine and secular authority? How should the Church relate to political forces such as individualism, nationalism and internationalism? In pursuit of answers to these questions, we will engage with prominent thinkers such as such Emmanuel Mounier, Dorothy Day, Benedict XVI, and Wendell Berry.
And a new gift: thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, the first 12 students to be admitted as Catholic Humanism Fellows for Fall 2024 will be invited to join Collegium Institute — Gratis-- for the touring performance of Les Miserables at the Kimmel Center in Center City Philadelphia on Saturday September 7. Victor Hugo’s beloved story explores the relationship between justice and mercy within a Christian vision of political community.
