My Roman Empire: The Philosophy of Obsession & Desire (Food For Thought Spring 2026)

Film adaptations of Jane Austen, Taylor Swift lyrics, the actual Roman Empire—what is it that we can't stop thinking about and what does it say about who we are? In this series, we will explore the loves we can't seem to get rid of, the battles we feel we must fight, and the sacrifices we make for what we hold most dear. Join us in thinking through these questions about obsession and desire through four lenses: love, conflict, sacrifice, and death. When should we fight for what we love? When should we let it go? And what remains when it's gone? Can ambition help us channel our desires in a healthy way or does it make us more obsessed?

Dates: Wednesdays, 5:45 pm to 7:00 pm (3/18, 3/25, 4/1, 4/8, 4/22). Dinner and readings will be provided.
