The Mystery of Human Life? The Human Embryo and the Continuity Problem

Collegium Institute’s Magi Project invites you to join us for the Spring 2025 Magi Lecture, “The Mystery of Human Life? On Biological Development and the Continuity Problem,” featuring Dr. Maureen L. Condic (Catholic University of America) on Monday, January 27, 2025 at the Penn Newman Center.

In her lecture on the eve of the feast of St. Thomas Aquinas, Dr. Condic will explore the leading proposals for identifying the beginning and end of human life as well as the scientific and philosophical challenges to each before making her own argument, drawing from her work as a neurobiologist and and molecular developmental biologist. Her remarks will be followed by an audience Q&A and light reception.

Dr. Condic is the inaugural Ombudsman and Senior Vice Provost for Research at CUA, and previously served as an Associate Professor of Neurobiology and Anatomy at the University of Utah School of Medicine. She is the author of two books on human development: Human Embryos, Human Beings: A Scientific and Philosophical Approach and Untangling Twinning: What Science Tells Us about the Nature of Human Embryos.

Date: Monday, January 27, 2025, 7:00 - 9:00 pm.
Location: Penn Newman Center (111 S 38th St, University City Philadelphia)
