Students, alumni, friends, and families are invited to attend our Penn Alumni Cocktail Hour on Friday, May 16 and our Penn Alumni Brunch on Sunday, May 18. Both events will take place at the Penn Newman Center (111 S. 38th Street).
At our Alumni Cocktail Hour on Friday, May 15 from 4:00-6:00pm, we invite you to join us for drinks and snacks as we kick off alumni weekend. All are welcome!
Cocktail Hour Date: Friday, May 16, 4:00 - 6:00 pm.
Cocktail Hour Location: Penn Newman Center (111 S. 38th Street)
We also invite you to join us for a free continental brunch event. The brunch will take place in the Church Hall immediately following the 9am Mass in St. Agatha-St. James Church.
Our event will feature a brief, informal program with Brian McCarthy, C'06, a Penn alumnus and former Student President of the Penn Newman Center, who is returning to campus to celebrate his 20th reunion. In 2019, Brian co-founded Archaea Energy, a renewable natural gas company focused on decarbonizing our nation's landfills. He helped scale the company until its record-breaking acquisition by BP. Brian then made a bold career transition, joining the Archdiocese of Philadelphia in 2023 as its first Chief Strategy Officer, where he is building the Strategy Office from the ground up. The decision was shaped in no small part by discernment with long-time friends from the Penn Newman community, his steadfast faith, and the same entrepreneurial spirit that defined his earlier career. Currently, Brian is working to align the Archdiocese's offices, parishes, and institutions, along with the broader community, around a shared strategic vision to rekindle a culture of missionary discipleship in our community.
Join Brian as he reflects on his journey from Penn to the Archdiocese, and how his experiences along the way helped shape a strategic vision to address the question: "Where does the Church need to be and how does it need to be?"
After brief remarks and discussion, participants will have an opportunity to continue the conversation, hear the latest updates from Penn Newman and Collegium Institute, and continue brunching. All are welcome.
Brunch Date: Sunday, May 17, 10:00 - 11:30 am.
Brunch Location: Penn Newman Center (111 S. 38th Street)
Alumni are able to RSVP for both events via the Penn Alumni Weekend Registration Portal. You can also register at the Google Form linked below. Questions? Please contact Quinn Moore (qmoore@collegiuminstitute.org).
