Courage, Dear Heart: On Fortitude

  • Penn Newman Center (Lounge) 111 South 38th Street Philadelphia, PA, 19104 United States (map)

Raphael, Saint George and the Dragon (c. 1505)

C.S. Lewis calls courage “the form of every virtue at the testing point.” Without courage, all other virtues would falter in the face of fear or opposition. We do not only need this virtue to inform our response to fear, but also to command our pursuit of all other virtuous activity.

For Courage, Dear Heart: On Fortitude, the third of seven seminars on 7 Secrets to Happiness: Living and Learning the Virtues, we will explore what art, poetry, literature, theology, and philosophy have to say about courage, and discuss how we can apply these ideas to our lives. We will also provide students with an opportunity to exercise the virtue of fortitude through a rousing round of paintball.

Courage, Dear Heart: On Fortitude will start and end at the Penn Newman Center from 10am-4pm on Saturday, October. There will be a $20 fee to help defray the costs of food and paintball.
